As winter turns into spring, April will be here before we know it. Although we focus on preventing child abuse throughout the year, Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time for a concentrated effort of spreading the word about child abuse prevention. This year we hope End Kids’ Tears will become an even bigger event throughout Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion, and Sumter Counties. To do this, several organizations have joined together to promote End Kids’ Tears and Pinwheels for Prevention.
The focus of End Kids’ Tears and Pinwheels for Prevention is to look at the different ways child abuse can be prevented and the ways the community can come together to make that happen. In our Circuit the largest verified maltreatments during 2013-2014 were substance misuse, family violence threatens child (domestic violence), inadequate supervision, and environmental hazards, in that order. Children deserve a childhood free of abuse and neglect.
